The FBI has arrested one person in connection with an ongoing investigation in the West Ashley neighborhood, officials said Wednesday. According to information from the FBI Columbia Field Office, the individual was taken into custody at a home on Woodleaf Court after a morning incident.

Details about the call are limited, but officials confirmed that they had been working in support of another agency’s probe. “We can confirm one arrest has been made,” said FBI spokesperson Mike Padilla. “The investigation is ongoing, and we will release more information as it becomes available.”

The neighborhood where the arrest took place has seen increased law enforcement presence over the past few days. Residents on Woodleaf Court reported seeing multiple agents in tactical gear entering the home in question around 9 a.m.

“I saw two cars pull up, and then they had about five or six officers get out,” said neighbor Jane Smith. “They all went inside, and we didn’t see them again for at least an hour.”

While officials have not released any information on potential charges or motives, sources close to the investigation have hinted that the arrest may be linked to a broader scheme involving local business owners.

The West Ashley neighborhood has been plagued by concerns over property values and safety in recent years. Some residents have expressed fears of gang activity and crime in the area.

“We’ve seen a lot of problems around here,” said resident Mark Johnson. “It’s good that they’re taking action.”

The FBI’s Columbia Field Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from local law enforcement agencies. Officials have not specified how long the individual will be held or when more information may become available.

As the investigation continues, residents are left wondering what this means for their community. With the arrest of one person and ongoing probe, authorities will likely provide updates as new details emerge.

What’s next for the West Ashley neighborhood remains to be seen, but officials say they’ll continue working tirelessly to address concerns and keep residents safe.
